Dead Men's Religion

Dead Men’s Religion How do you claim to follow good, yet walk in wicked ways? How does cruelty serve the One who leads the light of day? How does spilling blood draw you close to what is right? How does harming others ever please the Lord of life? How can killing be done in the name of love above? How is violence holy, when the message should be love? Say your faith is sacred, no matter what you claim But every eye sees clearly what your religion really proclaims You speak of peace in worship, but violence trails your wake Your sanctity is broken by every soul you break You strip away compassion, leave dignity ignored The wounds you cause in others cry out before the Lord That in the final judgement you won't be justified. God, open the eyes of the hearts that think they know What’s meant to be holy, but darkness is all they show You call your faith hallowed, but truth will have its say All wrongs will be answered on the judgement day God, let them see who you really are Merciful, righteous, Holy, shining bright as the stars The cruel can’t enter those gates or behold your face By the fruit of their living, they’ll never see that place Because dead men’s religion wont look upon God’s face Hatred wears a holy mask, the outsider is betrayed Injustice goes unchallenged, while innocence is slain The whispers in the darkness say, “We’re chosen, we are blessed” Yet all your empty rituals give your weary souls no rest You claim to be devoted, but betray the pure and weak Chasing after cravings, ignoring prayers you speak Your choices tell the story, when the last account is read There’s no excuse for evil in the justice of the dead You call your faith unblemished, while blood stains your hands The world can see the lies, and truth unmasks your plans The violence of your doctrine is a scar that will not fade No garment dressed in white can cover these mistakes That in the final judgement you won't be justified. God, open the eyes of the hearts that think they know What’s meant to be holy, but darkness is all they show You call your faith hallowed, but truth will have its say All wrongs will be answered on the judgement day God, let them see who you really are Merciful, righteous, Holy, shining bright as the stars The cruel can’t enter those gates or behold your face By the fruit of their living, they’ll never see that place Because dead men’s religion wont look upon God’s face Turn around its not too late Destiny is not fate The choice you make to turn around Is calling you to higher ground A pure heart you cannot fake Give it all for Jesus sake Jesus empty grave Is the sign for all to see He suffered for us all That we can be made free The penalty of sin On judgement day we face Was paid upon the cross When Jesus took our place That on the final judgement you are justified. God, open the eyes of the hearts that think they know What’s meant to be holy, but darkness is all they show You call your faith hallowed, but truth will have its say All wrongs will be answered on the judgement day God, let them see who you really are Merciful, righteous, Holy, shining bright as the stars The cruel can’t enter those gates or behold your face By the fruit of their living, they’ll never see that place Oh God reach those hearts before regret becomes their home
